Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

Post Date: January 15, 2023

January 16, 2023 celebrates the life and achievements of Martin Luther King Jr., an influential American and chief spokesperson for nonviolent social change in the Civil Rights Movement. He was the recipient of the 1964 Nobel Peace Prize.

King is most well-known for his campaigns to end racial segregation on public transport and for racial equality in the United States.

Born in 1929, King's actual birthday is January 15 (which in 1929 fell on a Tuesday). The holiday is similar to holidays set under the Uniform Monday Holiday Act. The campaign for a federal holiday in King's honor began soon after his assassination in 1968.
